My apologies if this comes across a little harsh, but it would seem that this generation is having a difficult time letting go of the microphone and passing the glory onto the younger generations that deserve it.

It's so strange to hear. We never said it about older generations. We never felt we "deserved" any special attention or glory. We worked for our place in the world. We didn't resent older people. I don't ever recall hearing anyone say anything like this in my life until within the past 10 years. What the heck do you think your generation deserves?
When I was pregnant with my first 5 years ago my MIL's coworkers threw her a grandma shower. I had also never heard of it. We were visiting and she proudly showed us her changing table, crib, and baskets of baby toiletries, towels, etc. This might make sense if we lived close by or visited often, but we are 6 hours away and visit at most 3 times a year. My oldest is now 5 and I'm pregnant with #3 and we have never used her crib or any of those baby items; they're actually still in the baskets they came in. We haven't purposefully not used them, we've just never needed them for any reason. I am not totally sure of the thought process behind the shower or her having all these things in her home.

This would be like the mother of the bride wearing a wedding dress to the wedding. This is a time reserved for the mom. Grandma can sit back down.
