Interesting article.

Been to a few baby showers for the mother at work but never heard about a grandma shower before.

It could be argued that the act of welcoming a baby is just as exciting for the entire family as it is for the new parents. Now, a new trend celebrates this enthusiasm: Baby showers with grandma as the guest of honor are on the rise. Just like a party for a mom-to-be, grandbaby showers typically have tongue-in-cheek games like pin the “No. 1 grandma” ribbon on the baby’s butt (Not to worry, it's just a poster.), along with the requisite diaper towers, theme cakes, and, of course, mountains of presents.

Different but to each their own.

Don't know that I would want one. I think they're for the moms only.

How about a daddy shower? A siblings shower? Why not an auntie-to-be shower?
It's getting ridiculous... Anything to make money!

Maybe it's a thing in retirement communities.

Not surprising. If you read the grandparent forum, you will see that there are some empty-nesters who feel very entitled to grandkids and all the trappings that go with them.

I want to get all scoffy, etc, but it is fun to have parties and celebrate life.

Thing is, you do not throw a shower for yourself.
So it is not granny's idea.

That may be the dumbest thing I've ever heard of. I'd tell grandma to go buy her own $hit.

That is tacky as hell.

I'm a grandma and I didn't birth those babies, nor will I be taking care of them fulltime. Why would I need a shower? For junk to play with the baby? Just a trashy gift grab.

If the Grandparents are going to be caring for the child then they either need to care for the child at the child's home or the child's parents need to provide the Grandparents with all the necessary essentials.

Personally I would congratulate someone but I would not attend a "Grandma Shower" or provide any tangible or monetary gift.
