To elaborate, do women offered Victoria's Secret modeling jobs have the RIGHT to not take them? Can a model quit doing the job if it exceeds their personal boundaries? Or does V.S. force women to model clothes?
I want to take it a step further and point out that this way of thinking perpetuates and legitimizes many social evils. The one that first comes to mind is child molestation. There is this immature fantasy that strippers and hookers and porn performers are all high i.q., emotionally stable, sober, mentally healthy adults. But the ugly truth is that the vast majority of these sex workers were sexually abused as children and their adult "career" decisions are the end result of that childhood trauma. When we talk about their free will "choice" to pursue their profession in the sex industry, we are effectively supporting the abuse that was necessary to bring the individual to that career.

It breeds all kinds of evil and unhealthy societies.

We need to move foward as humans and stop thinking we have a perfect society. We are not there yet. I think people k9coach are ahead of our time. There will be a time when people will look back at our unheathy view of women and think "What in the world were those people thinking?" "Why did liberals betray their own people?" Just like when I read how people allowed all kinds of atrocities like slavery, stoning, witch hunting, racism and discrimination, I'm sure our society will move foward and see our misogynist society for what it is, an irrational backwards institution.

For that poster who asked about women's opinion, "present?"
I'm a middle aged woman and I've been shopping at VS for years. Do you see any attempt by women to look attractive as somehow being objectified? Do you think women should cover up like the women in Saudi Arabia so as not to tempt men or be objectified? Shapeless garments that cover us from head to toe? Is that a healthy view of women? Because even a full length dress can make a woman look attractive and sexy.

I don't know a single person who thinks we are even close to having a perfect society. As for being ahead of your time, I think you sound like someone out of the Dark Ages, or at least a Puritan. You don't sound like a liberal, you sound like a right-wing conservative who wants to dictate how others dress, think and live. Slavery, stoning and witch hunting?? Really??? We're talking about lingerie ads here.

Here's the problem: what do we consider attractive? V.S. is part of the machine that defines that for our culture and the view presented is narrow, unrealistic, unhealthy, and unattainable on purpose to keep us all in line as good little consumer slaves.

Covering up is not the solution! V.S. is doing exactly that in fact! They are covering the truth of womens' bodies with layers of makeup, padding, digital enhancement, airbrushing, etc. Don't you see how they are doing the very thing you complain is happening in Saudi Arabia? It's all the same misogyny.

Where is the celebration of the female form in all its variety?! Oh, that's not allowed because it would lead to too much happiness and satisfaction. And happy, satisfied Americans are too content to fulfill their life's purpose, which of course is making Big Business as rich and powerful as possible.

Thank you for shopping, Spikett.

It is unhealthy when it is all that defines a woman. Many societies based women's worth on their looks or by the number of sexual partners she has had in the past.

Unfortunately our society seems to going in the wrong direction. Misogyny is the "new black". While it's no longer acceptable to make jokes about blacks, it is quite funny to do so about women. When you constantly see another group as inferior you dehuminize it and breed exclusion and even violence.

Remember that girl that was raped in Ohio by a black and white guy? Isn't Ohio diverse? That is a perfect example. Many people justified the rapists actions because the girl had a history of being promiscious. The things they did to that girl (like urinating on her) show that these guys had a lot of contempt for women(or promiscious women, whatever)

And please let's try to have an intelligent conversation instead of accusing me of being a puritan. Being against objectification has nothing to do with religion. In fact many religions objectify women by reducing their worth to their vagina's activity or blind obedience to men.

Young women who generally fit the mold of current beauty standards are being put in grave danger by the pornographers who pass themselves off as ad execs, photographers, magazine editors, media moguls, movie producers, and video game designers. The only way we ever see young, "attractive" women portrayed is as sexual objects. They are always and only shown as sexually ready, willing, and inviting. The main focus is always on their physical appearance and sexual body parts, and they are always presented as sexually available i.e. begging for it. Women who look like V.S. models are pretty much never presented without sexual connotation. Any aspects of their personhood that aren't about sex are completely disregarded. Is it any wonder we now have a generation of young men that blatantly view their female peers as non-human sex objects to be brutalized, humiliated, and used? They've never seen cute young women presented in any other way. Every video game they play, every ad they see, every movie, magazine, billboard, tv show, etc. tells them that women who look this way are for one thing only, and it is not their hearts, their minds, or their humanity.

Everything in America is basically owned by a handful of huge corporations. If you follow the chain up to the top you figure out why they all have an interest in normalizing pornography and hooking consumers on pornographic imagery. They are all in the porn business in one form or another. This imagery is enslaving Americans for the benefit of these filthy rich criminals, and the brainwashed Americans actually defend the big corporations! Trust me they are loving some of you in this thread. "None are more hopelessly enslaved than those who falsely believe they are free". - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Victoria's Secret uses sweatshop labor including child labor to construct their garments. The stories coming out of these sweatshops are horrific. How can anyone fight on the side of this evil, despicable company?! You really believe they respect women? Maybe they should show a little respect to the women working in their sweatshops instead of beating them, starving them, and working them to death without pay. I would post links to all of this information, but they all of course include pics of V.S. models (not to mention the exploitative ads that accompany the articles) so I'm not doin' it.

Many women like looking good and objectified in that way, nothing wrong with it.

I really do not feel sorry for the "oppressed" VS models who makes millions a year.

Women have been using their sexuality in every culture for the entire existence of humans, I do not see a problem with this.

I do not see where it is stated that the body is something not to admire, or to use. I think the body and sexuality are great assets to have. A woman's mind, perosnality, who care, if that is the standard they want to show, they are free to do so.

The ramblings of some people on here, puritan of course in origin, end result is the need to control women.
