People definitely treat you better when they find out you HAVE money. Im 28 but look like Im 21, and my wife and I have well paying jobs. However we usually dress fairly lax compared to northern standards (Flip flops, shorts, polo shirt) given that we're Floridians and laid back people. Whenever we walk through department stores or any higher end stores we arent even given the time of day by the clerks. Its not until I beg for a clerk so that I can buy something that they realize Im serious. One time I went into a jewelry store to buy my wife an xmas gift and they wouldnt even help me. So I waved a wad of cash at the manager, smiling, and waved goodbye and walked out the door.
You dont have to have money just look like you do,I normally use to do alot woodworking and didnt look my best --full of sawdust,dirty blue jeans and such,and people,who didnt know me, generally treated me with a little disrespect, but when I would go out and get cleaned up and dressed up people would treat me like a different person, they would even call me sir!open doors for me!!yes money talks and even the perception of money talks.
A lot of people who "have money" do not look like they have money so you can never assume that the guy in the very expensive suit is better off financially than the guy in his overalls who just paid cash for the vehicle he is driving.

No matter how I have dressed (and my dress ranges from casual to ultra-casual), I have never been ignored in a store or whatever. I don't even wear make-up.

That's so...I dunno...Pretty Woman.
Ive heard several of my friends who are my age say the same thing. So it could be pretty common in my area to discriminate on age. Not sure.
I can't say exactly how many times I've been confused for the gardener or maintenace person at my apartments...
Strangers come up to me and ask how much I charge or want a quote to do their yard or haul trash to the dump.
I kind of like the low key role... lets me see how people really are when they think they don't have to be on their best behavior or no one is looking.
Remember once I was out painting the curb red at one building I own and had scheduled interviews for an onsite manager position... I highly recomend it because I was able to dismiss several just by their actions.
For years I drove an old plymouth valiant that I paid $800 for back in college... still have it.
Remember pulling up to a property and parking in the visitor spot... I had just bought the place... I was told there was no vacancies and my car would be towed if I didn't move it...
Keep em guessing works for me...
