Then the other issue, of course, is that the money would have to be given by taxpayers with strings. After all, shouldn't people, even now, be expected to sell their 52" TVs and top-of-the-line cell phones to ........feed their kids?

It completely removes the incentive to W-O-R-K for your living when you can get a handout from the government...uncle sugar. And what guarantee is there that the individual, once receiving said money, doesn't go out and blow it on booze, drugs, prostitutes, etc....and then comes begging for more because they are hungry. Sorry, I have seen to much of the dark side of the human psyche to believe this one will work. Let the socialists that support this system donate the money out of their own pockets.
