There are many meanings to that term, but I've noticed a number of americans view the constitution is the greatest document ever made, the us is the best country to ever exist and the founding fathers are the best men of all time.

Why do you think this is? Because politicians say this all the time? Because from a very early age we say the pledge of allegiance before having any idea what allegiance means? or so young as to not have any critical thinking skills?

Hold the USA back from what?

And who says the founding fathers are the best men of all time? They were just men. But, they did an amazing thing. They wrote a document and created a system that lasted. One that is democratic, doesn't involve dictators, or military rule. They created a system where the citizens can vote to oust a president, and have done so.

How many revolutionaries can say the same?

Perhaps it is the critical thinking skills that have convinced many Americans that this is the best country. Analyze your options in other countries and let me know which of the other countries you'd rather move to. And don't just pick one issue/benefit. I mean the entire reality of living there - all costs, personal rights, justice system, tax system, job opportunities, educational opportunities, equal rights, etc., etc.

And then, if you do this homework and find another country you think you'd really rather live in, let me know, and why.

Yes, very much so. When you're too busy talking about how great you are you're not working on improving yourself.
I believe America will become a third world country in the very near future, probably after the impending economic collapse. Soon we'll be the suicidal Chinese ipad assemblers shipping American made products to China not so much unlike an episode of the twilight zone.

I didn't say love it or leave it. I asked you to convince me another country is better.

You assume people who believe America is the best country are influenced by propaganda and are not critical thinkers. I disagree. I have looked at moving to other countries, thinking life would be less expensive, better, etc., and after analyzing - critical thinking - decided America was the best place to live.

If you disagree, start giving real data as to why America is not the best country. You totally evaded doing your homework. Tsk tsk on you.

American education lags behind other countries. That is a fact.
The Federal Reserve and chrony capitalism are running the country into the ground.
America imprisons more of it's citizens than any other nation on Earth past or present.
America is right above Mexico in poverty
Poverty and Education: USA vs. World

More school shootings happen here than anywhere else in the world.
Credit card fraud is highest here.
85% of products sold in American stores are foreign.
Media is second to North Korea in misinformation.
American voters are some of the most uninformed people on the planet. I've talked to Australians, Canadians, and British people who know far more about American politics than Americans.

Australia is better than America. Switzerland, Finland, Denmark, Netherlands, and Canada are better than America.

The only way America is better is if you go by individual traits.
For example, America does not have the small breasted porn star ban that Australia does. Yay Merica.
However Australia has half the unemployment America does. Minimum wage is double, everyone has healthcare, poverty is low. Australia ranks 8th in the world for education and 16th in global peace, America is 99th.

If I could afford to get my family and possessions to Australia I'd be there now.

Because I have seen a lot of the rest of the world from the palaces to the slums. When I was in service I knew if I got home alive ;the rest was a piece of cake and kept that thought. No country based on any piece of paper has ever done so much for so many people; plain and simple.

I was haunting the General US forum yesterday, and there's a thread by an Australian who wants to move to the US for better schools and a better attitude towards achieving high goals. He said it's so laid back there, that there isn't much encouragement for the kids to excel. His kids are into tech stuff and their heros are Bill Gates and Steve Jobs. He wants to put them into an environment that will encourage them to become entrepreneurs, etc., and doesn't believe he can find that for them in Australia.

Two of my best friends live in Canada, and they want to move here. Their taxes are around 50% (which pays for their "free healthcare, etc.), they are afraid to retire and quit working because then they will have to pay for their healthcare out of pocket - even though they won't be getting as much money, and they are into shooting, and are afraid they will lose their right to have their shooting guns in Canada.

So, at least some Australians and Canadians would disagree with you that their countries are better.

I think many countries view theirs as the greatest in the world. Up until the 2000s, Americans just had a better claim than most. The British are extremely arrogant about their culture, think their is no "USA" without them, and think their music/language/laws/customs are the greatest on Earth. In many ways they're right. I won't argue. English is quite possibly the premier language in the world (yes even if two billion people speak Chinese). The Greeks, think they are responsible for all of Western Civilization, medicine, language, science. Africans think they are "the motherland" for all of humankind, including western civilization. The Spanish think they're the greatest nation on Earth because they stole all the gold from the Americas, took it to Spain, and conquered the North/South America. The Italians/Romans had the greatest empire in the history of the world, The Roman Empire. So, it's all relative. Pretty much every country thinks it's the greatest.

Do I think American exceptionalism holds us back? In some ways, yes, because we still think it's the post ww2 boom and go around playing police officer to the rest of the world, handing out money like santa claus. Really, we're in debt, broke, and living in ruins of a once great nation.

I have no desire to own a firearm, that's of little concern to me if I were in Australia.
Here in America people don't have healthcare whether they work or not. Often times Americans CAN'T retire at all. At least there's the choice in Australia. And as I said, if you compare every single variable, America will have SOME better aspects than other countries but if you look at them as a whole, America is far from the greatest.
