Now THAT is a scary thought. I think the only thing that has prevented WW3 from happening has been Mutual Assured Destruction through nuclear warfare ...... but that's only with most countries having nukes being relatively sane (other than Pakistan and NKorea). It's inevitable that more unstable nations will acquire nukes ..... it looks like Iran is on the verge of industrializing the process so that they will become a major player with many bombs, and they are led at the very top level by religious fanatics who have openly threatened Israel with annihilation.

No.

The world faces far, far greater threats from new multi-drug resistant diseases and global warming, which are two things that do not respect any country's boundaries and that both threaten to send back humanity to the 3rd century.

If the people in power feel the need to thin the population they'll find a reason to go to war.

"Will there be a WWIII?"

Think of what "world war" - the phrase suggests. It suggests that every government on this planet will be fighting battles with some other nation at the same time.

Has there ever really been a "world war?"

Look at this map: Map of current wars through May 14 2014:
Wars in the World » Map Ongoing Conflicts

Why isn't this called a "world war?" There are dozens of nations in battles now. Probably more nations involved in war than in the 1940s.

Aside from this

262 million people have been killed by governments in the 20th century (linky: 20th Century Democide )
