On a simplistic and superficial level, there has been so much progress just since I was born in 1944 that it boggles the mind. Planes fly father and faster, our species has set foot on the moon, the advent of computers has changed the way we all live and allows us to get information so much faster. Dental and medical advances save lives and make life better for many.

But the real question remains whether all that progress has made daily life better for the majority of people and my answer is no, it has not. Let me just give one small (some will say trivial) example and leave it at that: In the old days we could telephone a company and get service, meaning that a human being would answer the phone and help us. Now it is often a nightmare to make contact with a company.

And no, I do not wish to give up the medical and dental advances. I am not a fool.

I agree with you, very well stated.

Some of the inventions for advancement I wouldn't want to live without either

I also think that some of this technology has given some people a false sensehood of thinking they are bigger than they are, and we are not.

In the quest for making it easier and simpler we are putting ourselves at risk.
Water plants, gas pumps, electricity, are ran with technology. Cut that supply, no good.
Cars now with computer chops that can be controlled, no thank you, along with cars that humans Dont have to drive.

I think we may be loosing the sense of ourselves, our coping skills.

Long gone for some to swing an axe at a pile of wood. Be tired and sweaty. But feel good for the accomplishment when you to a log on th fire to keep the family warm.
And knowing things will be okay cause you can provide thru endurance.

Researchers: We've discovered power grid-wrecking software

Researchers have found a troubling new form of power grid-wrecking software, tying the discovery to a recent Ukrainian blackout in tworeports published Monday.

The malicious software has the ability to remotely sabotage circuit breakers, switches and protection relays, the reports say, a nightmare scenario for those charged with keeping the lights on.

2010 researchers discovered Stuxnet, a groundbreaking piece of malware apparently designed to sabotage Iran's nuclear program by sending its centrifuge machines spinning out of control. In 2015, a cyberattack left upward of 200,000 people without power in Ukraine.
