I think there are many, MANY of them running the show today.
If those rules of Marxism apply, then there must be a lot of first world communist countries out there today, lol. I mean TAXES? Oh horrors. Maybe another poster will dissect that communist manifesto with its far fetched "explanations" but the explanations are so exaggerated and inflammatory and just plain wrong that it would take a lot of energy to explain why they are false.

However, I think most people who follow politics today would agree that there are a lot of "somebodies" running the show today. Probably not communists but as to who is running the show, that's for another thread, a different topic.

When it comes to being on watch against socialists/communists, my conscience allows for flawed leaders.

Actually, he was running a distraction to hide the fact that the USA became a communist nation in 1933. Attacking Hollywood, hid the fact that the most pro-communist group was Congress, itself, a propaganda tactic used by NAZIs.

America's version didn't rely on overt nationalization, but covert control via taxes, licenses, rules and regulations that effectively made all labor and industry subservient to the Federal government and its alphabet agencies.
(Aggregate taxes, state, local and federal, amount to 39% to 46% of the GDP, which is a staggering amount when you think about it. Pharaoh's serfs only paid one part in five (20%) in taxes.)

Not that I remember much about that era but it finally calmed down and got back to so-called "normal." Whatever his motivation was for wanting to harm people, I don't know. Sadism? Crazy person?

Drunken stupor?

Like the flawed socialist using taxpayer $$$ to solve problems he's created like bailing out farmers having no where to sell their crops?

Sounds like the opposite of America.

No. McCarthy is a lesson in the dark side of American history that nobody wants to see again.

The closest thing to communism in America I see is Trump's love for the dictator leaders of NK, China and Russia.

When I think of those times I remember some of the things Kruschev predicted.

"The John Birch Society is Communism's greatest ally. With its help we will divide and confuse the American people until they have lost faith in their Government, their nation has ceased to be a major world power, and their country is ripe for revolution."
Nikita Khrushchev

Indeed. One could make a similar case that the US is currently a fascist nation.

It would also be wrong, but closer to reality IMO than being Communist.

No, McCarthy wasn't "right". His group started investigating my father because he was in the military but refused to attend church services. When investigators learned his mother's maiden name was McCarthy and actually distantly related, they stopped.
