What’s wrong with playing games and doing what you like? Why do we have to just spend time being busy to feel better? This is why I feel sorry for people who don’t like video games. So don't. Stay where you are, cocoon yourself with your games, whatever else suits you-though I'm not so sure about continued money sent to you without your earning it in some way.

But you don't dictate what others do.

Well, unless the activity presents a threat to me or my families health and safety.

People deciding not to obey distancing and other related guidelines right now, are presenting a real threat to my families health and safety...as an American citizen, I have the right to protect against that, (up to and including the use of deadly force!)

Would you use deadly force to keep your family safe from harm if it came down to it?

That depends, are they intentionally coming up in their faces and coughing/spitting at them (which would be very rude pre or post-covid19)?

If not, then it's none of mine or your business.

I was responding to the OP's stated wishes "not to go back to the old ways", his/her opinions that "school should be entirely online", and that "people should only see each other on special occasions, and in general advocating for his/her own preference to avoid direct contact with others, being paid to stay home, not work and pursue his/her solitary interests.

As I said, other than using my tax money to support those who wish to live such a life, I don't care what the OP does, but he/she can't dictate this for others.

I'd suggest that if you're so afraid that you become a "virus vigilante" looking at others as potentially contagious "boogeyman" in their pursuits of their everyday lives, lest they
violate (even in your mind), some rule about crossing your path, not wearing a mask when you think they should, or the wrong kind of mask, or inadvertently cough or sneeze anywhere except into a black hole, or heck, even shopping or strolling outside as a senior because you think they should stay home, then, perhaps you ought to stay home too.

You asked.....

Unfortunately, I work in a field where people want and need things done promptly. If I don't deliver they will find someone who will.

Still, I have been relatively successful practicing law out of my home about 30 hours a week and going to work about ten hours a week because what I do is deemed "essential". I'm amazed at what I have accomplished in the last six weeks.

Social distancing will work for a while. But there comes a point where people won't allow it continue. Personally, I think we should be continuing what we were doing for at least another month before they relaxed the guidelines. No question though, a lot of people are getting hurt by this shutdown. I feel for them. I just believe what we are doing is the "least-worst" alternative.

The thing is, it's not just certain people who are getting hurt, it's local and state governments as well. With everything being shut down the tax revenue is being decimated and that will hurt everyone in the long run.

For example, para and extra teachers in Denver are being told they will no longer have jobs as the budget deficit for the school district will be severe. Denver owns Red Rocks, a popular outdoor concert site. All of those concerts and events have been canceled. There will be no seat tax collected, no parking fees collected, no hotel or restaurant tax or airport taxes for those who would have traveled here. No tourists means reduced tolls collected.

With all of the stores and shopping malls closed that tax revenue is also gone. No one is buying a car right now so those taxes are gone. If you think of every business and service that is shut down it's staggering. Cities can't just print money like the federal government so there will be cuts. Eventually that trickles to education, police, fire, road repairs, etc. There will be layoffs and everyone will hurt.

We have to reasonably reopen.

Life right now is very relaxing. The school year is over, so I don't have to wake up at 7 AM. I don't have to think about school lunch. I don't have to worry about my children's schedules. I don't have to go out and be somewhere.

I wake up at 8 AM to go to work and leave at 4 PM. Commute that normally takes 45 minutes in the morning and 1 hour in the evening only takes 30 minutes both ways due to no traffic. It's so relaxing. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, I work at home.

I don't have to see my in-laws or anyone else, for that matter. I don't have to go to dinner with them and can save money not eating out with them. I don't have to feel crummy feelings from being around people.

I just go grocery shopping and that's it, which I love anyway.

Sometimes it's boring, but overall, it's a great life. Bad is being responsible for my children's education as that's NOT what I want to do during the day. Bad is that I refuse to learn new tech like Zoom. Bad is my children's education getting ripped off as the school year ended in March. But absolute worst is assuming we don't get sick and if life stays this way, my company will go bankrupt due to much less business and I'll have no income.

There was no sentence in OP's post that was dictating what others should do.

A great life with no income won't be great for long.
Not having children in normal social settings is going to create maladapted young adults.
So it's back to class asap.

Are you joking? What are you going to do...shoot someone if they walk too close to you? This virus is really making some people go cuckoo.
