Cell-phone technology, the scourge of humankind that has become an acceptable addiction BY THE MAJORITY! When is everyone going to realize that this world of human beings is going - or has already gone - to hell in a handbasket?
I spent a forty minute bus journey.. listening to a young woman arguing with her ex boyfriend on her phone... everyone on the bus could hear every word as she was shouting.. swearing and downright rude... no one said to her including me.. so our fault as much as hers... She would hang up on him he would ring back and it would all start again.. .complete bad manners .. why do people think their conversations are so popular and that we all want to hear......
I live in a semi-rural area. Folks like to walk the road but some are quite loud on their cellphones. My neighbor has a loudspeaker/megaphone in the bushes and yells at them to shut up. He's not too worried about them trying to get to it; they have to cross a fence and an area of thorny bushes.
To me its not rude, its just trashy to let your business out there for everyone to hear.
As someone mentioned, there is no real civility anymore. Doesn't seem like anyone cares that you are listening to either a very annoying end of a conversation or a convo that should seriously be held in private. I have only ever asked one person to please hold it down (when I was in a clothing store) and she damn near went postal on me, so I have not done that again.
My sister will call me from a place where she is shopping. I don't do that nor do I answer my phone if I am somewhere shopping - unless I have something urgent to discuss. And even then, I try to whisper. and if I have to, I take it outside.
Yes...I was in a public restroom one day taking a dump and all of a sudden the guy in the next stall started talking. It startled me. I said, "What?" Then realized he was probably on his cell phone.
I was in the restroom at a casino and a woman in an adjacent stall was talking on her phone to her husband/partner. “I’m at the store right now, I’ll be home later.” I wanted to yell “Liar, liar, pants on fire.”
Its probably been discussed before but here is the issue, and there may be others. Is it rude to have extended, loud conversations on a cellphone in an area where people are congregated.
Now, I understand the technology has been around about 40 years now. We do not have to hunt down a telephone booth and fumble for change. We have gone from a bag phone that weighed a couple of pounds to a deck of cards that weigh a few ounces and fits in our shirt pocket. Its convenient, its there when we need it. Its no longer a phone but a data connection to the world, our map, our calculator, or camera and voice recorder.
It has brought with it issues like texting and driving, a light to wave at concerts and irritate others at the the movie theater. It also brings a one sided conversation that can be overheard by whomever happens to be close. The topics are never ending from 'Where are you" to "Which brand of beans should I buy?" Sometimes these conversations are necessary and its good to know your spouse is caught in traffic and you need to go pick up the kids.
However, when you are on the treadmill at the gym and you have a frivolous conversation with your 'bestie' for 20 minutes where everyone can hear you, is rude. If you really have to have an extended conversation, chit chat, business, talk about your hemorrhoids or otherwise, go somewhere private.
I mean, what if I opened a book and began to read out loud in Starbucks or some outer public place? Have you ever been annoyed by excessively loud music from someones car? Can you not shut the noise up? Cellphones are the same.
Your thoughts?
When I'm at the gym, I prefer to wear my ear buds, or a headphone, listening to MY music, and not the pumped in music the gym uses. The gyms are noisy anyway.

i usually find these incidents kind of entertaining. i agree it is not using the best judgement, but it takes all kinds of people to make life interesting.

You know how sometimes you get in a pattern and you see the same person in almost every aisle of the grocery store? A couple of times it's been one spouse doing the shopping and asking the other spouse at home "do we need...", "should I get"...all the way through the grocery aisles. To me...bizarre.
