Anytime you have one person giving another person money for a service, the one with the money has all the power. Sometimes people abuse their power over others--this is prevalent in sex/money transactions.
It is prevalent in all economic transactions. The big guy takes advantages of the little guy. Whether the big guy is paying or being paid. That's why we have contract laws and such. These laws are sufficient to handle services such as hair salons and dental services. They would be sufficient to handle legalized prostitution.

if by power you mean you choose whether or not to pay for a service then yes the customer has all the power... and its up to the service provider to sell you on whatever it is you are thinking of buying.
Why not -- if those receiving the ads are over 18 AND the advertisers pick up ALL the resulting trash?
Because those of us who do not support prostitution should have the freedom and the right to be able to live our lives without being bombarded with that type of aggressive solicitation.

Agreed. So legalize it, move it off the streets, regulate it, tax it, control it. But making it illegal just keeps it on the streets.

I agree, if it were legalized I think the more discretion the better. If we had brothels I would hope we could have them be classier than the window shopping kind they have in amsterdam. there is no reason that a brothel could not be in a a discreet location/building. And as far as advertising goes I think they should be able to advertise just like strip clubs do, (late night tv radio, etc).
Now if prostitution was legal, would the brothel be legally allowed to service a customer if they were married?? I think that they would but I know there are some states where adultery is actually a crime so what do you all think?

I don't think adultery should be a crime actually. Grounds for being penalized in a divorce suit...yes...but not a crime.

Adultry is not about sex...it's about failed marriages. Furthermore to criminalize victimless crimes would cause an expenditure of funds in their enforcement when we have much larger problems: gangs, violent drug cartels, child prostitution and slavery, etc.
So, NO don't criminalize adultry...divorce the jerk.

It seems like this post is contradicting what I said but I made very clear that I do NOT think adultery should be a crime.
I AM, however, against no-fault divorce and DO think that the spouse who did not commit adultery should be favored.

oh...I misunderstood....sorry....
I agree with your second statement though.
Also, I think that if a married man goes to a prostitute without his wife's prior consent (who would be nutty enough to consent?) is a real jerk. But that doesn't change the need, IMHO, to legalize prostitution.
