I already had 16 years where I did no work. It's time to work now, and for the rest of my life. If you don't work, you haven't earned your right to live.
I have a serious question for you: What do you do for fun?
Which again, costs money, and I think they expect you to be insured? It's not a problem for me, as I have a job, and don't require a vehicle to get to it. I walk 99% of the time. I may take a bus occasionally, but don't really care to pay the extra money for that.
There is absolutely NO need to move from the place you were born.
You were just complaining that you couldn't find any jobs, and now you say this? If you want to be serious about your career and find the best job you can, you will have to move at some point. Granted that great career isn't important to some people (which is fine), but if you are unwilling to move you have no right to complain about not being able to find a job (or a better job at that)
I can't find a job that would pay me more than what I make now--so why should I leave? My company is also NOT hiring at this time. So no one else can find a job with my company, doing what I'm doing.

If money is important to you, I am willing to bet you could find a better paying job if you are willing to move. That is all I am saying. At this point it comes down to what is more important to you - staying put or making more money.
Many poor people are that way because they have been exploded by people that got rich by keeping them poor. Many towns have sort of a captive population that can't afford to move, couldn't afford an education - no fault of their own as the jobs are low paying. Yes, some people are lazy, not so bright - but you can be not so bright and still not be poor - check out your favorite actors/actresses and some of the political people - they have money and are obviously not so bright. Right now is the worst time that I have seen and so many people are struggling and doing what they have to hanging on and hoping better days are ahead but knowing they may not be.
I live in a fairly economically depressed area and there are plenty of poor people around.
Thinking about it, I agree that the two main contributing factors are laziness and stupidity. Both of which there appears to be no shortage. Here in the Beautiful Missouri Ozarks, most people who are inclined to work, even if they have few skills, can generally find some type of gainful employment.
I vote for the lazy and stupid option. Where I live in the Missouri Ozarks and most people, however unskilled, can find gainful employment if they are motivated to work and even marginally trainable.
There are, nevertheless, a huge, HUGE number of people who fnd it much more convenient to sit on their behinds and collect welfare and food stamps and often "disability" instead of bothering to get a real job.
My philosophy is that people who are "poor" have chosen that lifestyle and that there are endless opportunities to improve the quality of life for those who are motivated to do so. Mind you, that may not be the case everywhere (where jobs are non-existant), but it is very true here.

In many places there are not oppurtunities to improve there life. Not everyone has the enviroment or money to.
