That's the funniest thing I have ever seen on C-D.

Clue for you. We don't have any lithium manganese oxide mines. So, when China says the batteries are $30,000 instead of $20,000, we say OK. At least we have some oil.

Did I say we had had these mines? No

This thread was about the Leaf, not about battery technology, manufacturers or country of origin....

It wasn't your thread. It was a news article celebrating the Leaf, an ill advised technology shift supposedly to reduce the US dependence on foreign oil. I will save you the pain of seeing quotes of your posts about batteries above.

Try manganese. That's where they get it.

The fact of the matter is this.

Gasoline at the pump costs what it does because of tax.

When/if electric cars become popular, the states and feds will make us have separate electric meters for vehicle use which will be taxed differently.

Throw those "savings" out the window.

As far as "carbon footprint', we still burn fossil fuels to produce electricity. Unless, like me, you have solar panels.

I though rare earth elements were one of the main issues regarding EVs and their batteries. Fortunately for us the U.S. is going to reopen our biggest mine in CA.

That's all well and good. What do you think is going to happen to electricity demand/rates when a few million autos were plugged into an already overburdened grid in many parts of the country.?

Fortunately most of the recharging will happen overnight when demand on the grid is at its lowest. For many of us in Texas that have access to wind energy this is a double benefit since the wind blows strongest at night.
