No, I sew the buttons back on my shirts, mainly because shirts are several times more expensive than underwear. I left off the fact that the underwear were embarrassingly old, and I could have just replaced them for $10, which I would have done before.

By low, I did not mean that it's demeaning in any way to be frugal.

It was more that everyone has a point where they'll say I'll just buy another, as with cheap socks or underwear. Have you ever tried to hand stitched gossamer like undergarments back together? It's possible but takes patience.
