I used to go into work early and my wife put the kids on the bus and drove into work. Now I go in a little later (still early) and I put the kids on the bus for school and my wife takes the bus. The cost of the bus is the same as her monthly parking pass used to be and she saved 6000 miles on her car and all the gas and wear and tear. The company subsidizes nearly the whole cost of the bus pass. So essentially travel costs to work are now zero. A few years ago I found a job 6 miles from home and cut out my 28 mile commute each way.

I also take my motorcycle almost any day I can when it's not raining and the temps are 40 or above. I'll be adding a removable windshield this year to extend the riding season.

Most of our shopping is all located within 2 or 3 miles from our home and we usually plan out longer trips out of time to accomplish multiple tasks.

I used to take joy rides to friends 40 or 50 miles away for an hour or two and now we visit less often but spend more time together.

We cut back on our weekend trips to the mountains for skiing and to the lake and now plan vacations around these trips staying for 1 week or more at a time.

Since many of the food stores are within walking distance I plan on buying/constructing a grocery cart to incorporate more excercise with our weekly shopping trip.

I buy groceries now. I use to just go out and find food. I have saved about $10 a week in gas not to mention how much I saved from not buying mcdonalds.
