Does that come in an ebook, or do we have to chop down trees to read it?

Okay, sweet tea all over the monitor!

I'll have to first research the author/organization that published it, first, to see what their particular agenda is, before I'll know how seriously to take it. That's the problem, there's so many people making an industry of "green" that you have to know that kind of information first.

The USC is a well known, established, non-profit, environmentally-focused advocacy group. If it makes it easier, Jerry Falwell hates them.

And yes, other things go into your footprint: air travel, house size, amount of red meat, etc. But driving has such a huge impact: a huge daily impact, on the environment. Newer books, a la Worldchanging, just assume you already know that SUVs are pretty terrible and going extinct, and just focus on future car designs.

Well, we all know what happens when you assume, right?

I agree, driving has a big impact, but isn't it more about gas mileage and emissions than the body style of the vehicle? There are sedans that get horrible gas mileage and there are SUVs that get considerably better gas mileage.

Thanks Karen . That's really all it comes down to - the passing lane is for passing .

I've shared this on my local forum and I'm going to share it here:

Years back, my husband used to deliver organs for transplant. Transplant organs are delivered to the hospitals packed in ice in a cooler in unmarked cars.

I can't tell you how upset he still gets when someone is holding up the left/passing lane. So the next time you're in the passing lane and you're holding up the car behind you, consider that you don't know why they are in more of a hurry than you and it's not your place to decide how fast they should drive - leave that to the police.

Unfortunately that's too complicated for some of the brilliant environmentalists to understand riveree...

Its ok if they use 50 gallons a month in their Prius, but if you use the same amount in a Yukon you're an uncaring ***** who is destroying the planet.

I'm just saying, no environmentalist is going to take an SUV owner who claims to be "living green" seriously unless they work for the park service. You're free to think whatever you want. But defending SUV owners is sort of like defending an animal rights activist who goes around kicking puppies.

I also assumed people on the green living forum would be seriously discussing environmental issues.
