I bought a home that has a pecan tree. In the yard there are many pecans on the ground that needs to be removed. My question is do they decay well in a compost bin and should they be crushed first before placing them in the bin?
The only nuts I know that shouldn't be composted is black walnut. It exudes a natural herbicide. The squirrels usually get them anyway.
I would crush the hulls as best you can before adding to the compost pile.

Thxs for you all for your replies. There are so many in this yard that it would take a lifetime to hand pick through them all.
