My wife and I just completed my home search in that area, and we selected Clemmons. You will get a lot of house there for the kind of money you are talking about, and the commute will be much shorter than 30 minutes.

Lewisville would not be a bad choice either. The two are close together, actually touching in one spot. Clemmons has more businesses, but Lewisville has more undeleloped land for building. Most of the newer nice houses in Winston-Salem are on the side of town closest to Clemmons and Lewisville, so most of the good stuff is in the same general area.

As you get closer to downtown Winston-Salem, houses there are much older, except for some nice condos and apartments that cater mostly to seniors and singles. There is a lot happening downtown, but you don't have to live there to enjoy it. After the commuters have arrived home for the night, I-40 will get you downtown from Clemmons in something like ten minutes.

Home prices here have fallen considerably in recent months, making it a prime time to buy in.

Thanks for the info, but now the job is in GReensboro
Is Clemmons still in option or is Kernersville or Sumemrfield better?

Lucky you! Greensboro is a beautiful area. Have lived in Greensboro, Winston, Eden, and worked out of Clemmons, W-S and Greensboro. Would find it harder now a days to live in Clemmons and commute to G'bo with all of the options available to you in Guilford, Alamance or Rockingham counties. Also, as announced on WSJS radio Tuesday, NC DOT is looking at major work on Business I-85 through W-S that is estimated to take at least two years if they totally shut down this major corridor it and up to six years if they only close certain lanes.

If you want to be near or on the water, you may want to check on an area near Denton, NC called High Rock Lake. This may be further than you want to drive, but it is closer than Charlotte. We have friends living in Clemmons and the High Rock Lake area.

Thanks...it does not have to be on the water, just something that would be nice.
