There was a small article in January 2015 Our State magazine (page 26) on Nester Hosiery in Mount Airy. The article says they make a variety of "Farm to Feet" socks made with Merino-grade wool.

I have big feet so I have no need for a small sock factory.

Their retail operation (828-396-2031) on Hickory Blvd (US 321, a block south of the new WalMart) sells "first quality" men's wool socks for about $4 a pair and bundles of "slightly irregulars" for about $1.50 each pair. Do not know if they are Merino sheep or alpaca wools. However, they are labeled as "wool."

Went looking online for the contact information - searching for them by their name. Was quite surprised to find that they have a very well-designed web-site and that this small two-brother operation has their show room in the Empire State Building!
I live less than a mile from Huffman. If you need me to stop by and look for anything, let me know.

You might want to check out Thorlo. They're based in Statesville and have some pretty amazing stuff. I did a quick scan of their products but decided to just post their company name so you can search and check them out and see what they have to offer. Good luck!

I wish I could have alpacas! Right now I'm furiously knitting a hat. I need one in this awful weather.
