To me, W-S, GSO, HP aren't getting enough attention nationally or internationally by being split up like they are, thus attracting more growth, like Charlotte. Even though each City likes its own identity I am sure a One City concept may never come about, even if all 3 Cities grow into one Big City?

Once you leave Greensboro, you are in Winston-Salem in hardly no time. Kernersville is becoming a suburb of High Point/Greensboro as much as it is of Winston-Salem. I think Kernersville has already annexed over into Guilford County.
And that 4 or 5 miles (I just checked and it's more like 6 or 7, but same difference) is pretty much all Kernersville. Greensboro has annexed up to Sandy Ridge Rd (and a little beyond) and Kernersville has annexed almost to Triad Park. Colfax is pretty much the only thing standing between them, and I think they signed an agreement that Bunker Hill Rd would be the boundary of mutual expansion, so the borders of K'Ville and G'boro could one day meet. Meanwhile, the western border of K'ville already touches the eastern border of WS. Given the fair amount of growth around Union Cross Road, I see this connection continuing to grow.
