Oh come on...do we really exclude restaurants just outside the city limits Greensboro? It's a good resteraunt, and someone visiting who likes fresh foods needs to know about The Moose. Have you eaten there or are you just trying to belittle my suggestion? If you want to get technical the OP asked for great local places and you suggested Mellow Mushroom - a chain restaurant.

I do know there is a kabob shop that opened up in High Point last year on S.Main right across from the Wal-Mart. Never been there, so no idea of the quality.
For good Mexican El Azteca on Friendly near Guilford College (right across from Elizabeth's Pizza) is good though a bit pricey for Mexican.
OK, guys, I know the thread is old, but really. No one recommend Stamey's BBQ.
Stamey's is a legend, still cooking with wood. The real deal. Been there forever. When I hear Greensboro and food, only Stamey's comes to mind.
Someone should be ashamed!
