A similar thing happened in Greensboro last year where 400 teens were said to be involved in fight/riot

Curfew considered after massive brawl in downtown Greensboro | MyFOX8.com - News, Weather, Sports and more from WGHP Fox 8 Television

In both cases, you have a relatively small group of teens fighting, and a whole lot of others either running to watch, or running away from the scene, all on the same strip. Not 300 teens involved, not 400 teens involved.
I was downtown last night for a show and had dinner afterwards on 4th Street. I was blown away by the vibrancy...the restaurants and bars were packed and the sidewalks were crowded. I hadn't been in that area that late in a long time, and it was definitely eye-opening.

You didn't hear those words when it happened in Greensboro. I'm starting to wonder if these "riots" are being done on purpose. Greensboro has launched a softer, more gentle campaign for this summer. Personally I think a dome needs to be dropped down and the offenders pepper sprayed and water cannoned until the point is made loud and clear.
My job has me in downtown WS occasionally and I have found nothing dead about it.

It is if he works there, at night. You seem to keep forgetting there is no wall.

Yeah...he doesn't. It was just one of his typical immature remarks, but I hope he reads your post and comes to the realization that there actually is no wall.

They said this one had something to do with the last day of school on Friday...I saw a lively crowd and visible police presence the following night.

Yeah, as badass as these punks think they are it's amazing how a few extra badges keep them in order. Greensboro did the same thing, imposed a curfew so the cops could go chase more serious crimes. One year they blasted classical music in Center City Park. Personally I would take the tax hike if it meant downtown had a dedicated police presence. For us who live here not much is thought of it, so to speak, but for those who don't it may discourage them from coming back. It runs along the line of the negative perception of the malls. Over hear you see the homeless chatting up with business owners, but they creep out those who aren't accustomed to that type of scene. It really ticks me off these BEMs put the enjoyment and livelyhood of others at risk just so they can act out their own little ghetto world.
