Greetings all,

I am a recent college grad, but I do NOT want to be surrounded by the undergraduate lifestyle (college campus, partying neighbors, etc.) I have a job offer to teach Pre-K in Greensboro on Battleground Ave. However, I was planning on moving to the Beacon Glen Apartment Complex on W. Market (13-15 minutes from my job). I've visited the location plenty of times, everything was clean and quiet (but I did not go sight-seeing of W. Market). I like the apartment complex (and it's owned by Bell Realty, which is great!). However, I do not know anything about the W. Market area...

Does anyone know anything about W. Market? Busy area? How do locals view the area? Anything else that I should know about Beacon Glen in general? ANYTHING?

Thanks in advance!

W Market is an artery so be prepared for it to be busy during rush hour. The area around the apartments is mainly commercial. You really won't begin to see much residential until you pass Holden Rd going east.

Hi flipflops, I'm pretty familiar with the area (worked on W. Market in that area between 2009-2011) and have friends in the area as well. Not a terrible area but it's changed a lot in the past 5-10 years--nothing violent, but more property crime, etc. I lived in Hunters Chase off Big Tree Way for 3 years with no issues. Just something to keep in mind, especially being a young and, from what I gather, female.

Were there any other apartments that you were interested in? The areas surrounding most of Battleground are relatively nice--you'll hit a lot of redlights between Beacon Glen and your destination. If you are interested in the western Guilford area, I'd also look farther west out Friendly Ave. towards the airport (less commercial, more residential). Also up New Garden and Old Oak Ridge Rd.

Hi guyblue,

I wish I would have looked into Hunters Chase, it seems pretty nice (but searching for apartments was becoming tiring). I was interested in Colonial Grand at Autumn Park, but I figured for my first non-student housing apartment I'd search a little longer before paying close to $800 a month for a 1 bedroom. Also, I only plan on being here about 2 years.

The New Garden area is nice, I was driving in that area recently. I have yet to visit the airport area, I probably will simply to branch out a little more.

Thanks much! Your response is greatly appreciated!

Update for future readers: I've been on W. Market (near Guilford College Rd) a little over a year now and I have enjoyed it. Beacon Glen is now called Market Station and it is a safe and clean area. I would recommend it!

By the way, I only stayed at the job for 5 months lol.
Good luck, future readers!
