Advance is very small, west of Clemmons. It has grown quite a bit in the past few years. The Clemmons/Advance area is very safe, in my opinion. I grew up (high school, etc) in Clemmons and would recommend it to anyone.

Small - tiny place. Basically a post office, gas station, fire department and big church. One of those "wide spot in the road" places. What makes it significant is the amount of development in the area (poofy McMansions) and its proximity to Bermuda Run/Hillsdale and (across the river) Tanglewood and Clemmons. There is an elementary school and a brand new middle school (just opened this year). High school is in Mocksville, some 10-12 miles or so away. Right now, area leaders are trying to do something about the crowding in the high school; the plight has brought to light some deficiencies in the way the school system is arranged. You can read more about it here
Winston-Salem Journal | Estimated cost of changes in Davie schools: $16.7M (http://tinyurl.com/2fsdzv - broken link)
Realtors will surely tout the area as "live the quiet, country life in Davie County - LOW TAXES!", but it's basically one of those rural counties that will eventually become a bedroom community to the larger metropolis of Winston-Salem.
