Charlotte even has a 73,000 seat stadium Uptown that could hold an enormous concert. Also concerts here are now held in the Bobcats Arena (Soon to be Time Warner Arena) which is not small either.
GSO Coliseum is just not appealing to the eye. Thats all.

I think Greensboro is lucky. It has a state-of-the art coliseum complex and the city didnt have to spend $30 million to $100 million for a brand new facilty. I think the advantage the Bobcats arena has is that its in the heart of downtown Charlotte where there are many restaurant and entertainment options within walking distance. Plus the Charlotte Convention Center is nearby. Now the Greensboro Coliseum is about 2 miles west of downtown Greensboro, but its not downtown. There are many restaurants near the coliseum along with the mall and the Koury Convention Center less then a mile away but you have to get in your car. There isnt alot thats in walking distance and the High Point Road corridor isnt pedestrian friendly so in those regards the Bobcats arena has an advantage. Now there is a plan underway to revitalize High Point Rd and improve the streetscape. There has even been mention of a possible streetcar/trolley rail line connecting downtown Greensboro with the coliseum and then with the Koury Convention Center.
However the Bobcats Arena on has 18,000 seats so there are pluses and minuses.
