Even if it's a $100k difference, an extra $100k in purchase price amounts to, what, an extra $700-750 a month in mortgage payments? So $9k a year, tops, in additional mortgage cost. Still not enough to offset such an enormous drop in salary.
I would personally rather live in Greensboro than Phoenix, but if we're looking exclusively at the specific scenario the OP laid out from an economic point of view, it's a tough sell. That's too huge a salary drop.

To be fair, she never asked if she should move or not. She asked what kind of salary would be considered middle class in Greensboro.
And while I get that you might say "why ask if you already made up your mind?", imagine how weird it would be if anonymous strangers on an internet forum ACTUALLY WERE the deciding factor in whether or not to pick up and move thousands of miles.
