What forces in Charlotte could possibly be working to economically sabotage Winston-Salem? That sounds a bit far-fetched, don't you think?

It's one thing to identify patterns related to economic trends and cities. It's quite another to assign motives to a city based on those trends. The fact of the matter is that this same pattern involving industry consolidation has played out all across the country in several places on differing scales. It's how Houston came to dominate on the Gulf Coast and Chicago in the Midwest. And Charlotte is ground zero for interstate banking in the country so it's no surprise that the industry consolidated there in this part of the nation. Their banking leaders were historically more ambitious and that's become something of an MO for the city.

I did not say mergers with them. I said mergers in general like the BB&T merger or the piedmont airlines merger etc.. Since you did not read carefully your statement is irrelevant.....
