I'm not saying anything about baseball. I wouldn't know. NY?

I'm from NC. We watched the ACC basketball tournament during class in high school. The teachers wheeled in the TVs back in the day. It's a basketball state in every city, town, and wide place in the road.

I don't think the lack of fans at a UNC-G baseball game in 2021 can be explained by NC being being a "basketball state".

Really? I mean I'm sure attendance is probably down due to the pandemic too, but I completely agree with HRVT.

Even in the best of years college baseball just isn't that popular in NC even if some of the teams are really good. It's not like basketball or football.

Thank you for the response and I understand that NC is basketball country as I'm an NC native as well. I don't remember ever having a TV wheeled in at school but I'm sure it varies from school to school and teacher to teacher.

I was just curious about where baseball would be more popular and why it wouldn't be as popular in NC. I agree that it would be popular in NY, and come to think of it, it seems popular in scattered places based on prominent teams (i.e. NY Yankees, St. Louis Cardinals, Atlanta Braves, etc.). It was more of a curiosity than anything.

It was pretty common. Here's a nice article in Our State about it: https://www.ourstate.com/growing-acc...ets-classroom/

And one on WCNC too: https://www.wcnc.com/article/enterta...0-cd54ddcf7964

I think college baseball is kind of unusual anyway because it hasn't been uncommon for kids to get drafted right out of high school and go to the minors. College is sort of the equivalent of the minor leagues for basketball and football, but for baseball college is kind of second best.

Here you go. Some stats on attendance at college baseball games: https://espn1420.com/ul-baseball-con...in-attendance/

From elementary school through middle school.. this happened every friday during the ACC tournament. Back then it was only 8 schools... so the first game was at noon on Friday. We would bring our lunches back to the class.... the teacher would dim the lights.. and we would watch until the end of the school day.

I find these stories quite interesting. I never had that experience and I grew up in NC. It was business as usual during that time.
