Absolutely. Basically, the chances are high this doesn't work out at all. If it does get built, it could very well still be Dell 2.0 in a way (closing after a short time).
The chances that this ends up being what's spoken of is, to be frank, fairly low. But if it happens as promised, it's indeed a BIG deal.
And none of this is to say it's not a risk worth taking. In fact, if it DOES work out, it could lead to more down the road.
I agree - the high potential upside makes it worth rolling the dice. Especially since the Toyota deal seems to be a rock-solid investment. It will be interesting to see if Boom has solved any of the issues that caused supersonic travel to flop the first time around.
Outstanding news! Turning a pile of dirt into a $1 billion dollar investment by Toyota with over 1700 good paying middle class jobs with benefits. Hard to overstate the vision of those responsible. This is going to change for the better, the lives of 1760 local residents. And it's worth repeating, that the quickest and surest way to make housing affordable is to provide folks with the means to pay for it.
Diamondback plans to have mixed of single-family and townhomes in the development in Vandalia. The land Greensboro is annexing is within a few minutes of the planned Toyota lithium battery plant in north Randolph County.
Another incentives bombshell in NC budget: Plan calls for $225M from state to spur 5,000 jobs, $4.7B investment in Randolph County. Likely Toyota auto plant next to $1.3B battery plant being built. https://t.co/m5MUUXmN1W
A $4.7 billion investment creating 5000 jobs. By all means, let's stop "chasing megasites". Is there anything in the bill about criminalizing stupidity?

It's kind if darned if you, darned if you don't. 5000 jobs is HUGE... but so is a $4.7 billion pricetag. It also depends on how the actual investment is structured.
Unfortunately, this is kind of how the game is played these days, especially with large scale investment... ya know.. the kind the politicians can use for photo-ops at groundbreaking to show how job focused they are.

I'm sorry if sarcasm clouded my message. Toyota Motor Corporation is investing $4.7 billion and creating 5000 good paying middle class jobs precisely BECAUSE of "chasing megasites". And in my opinion, the the PTI Megasite ultimately holds similar potential. My enmity is directed toward those who drool over "tech" instead. Put away your telesopes, this isn't Boston or New York. Nor even Raleigh or Charlotte. It doesn't have to be either/or, but for our immediate area, manufacturing and transportation/distribution/logistics are where the gold is for the vast majority of the population. Let's build, let's move, let's do. Let's pursue our own identity. And don't kid yourselves, the rest of North Carolina is taking notice. And not without a touch of envy.
