I'm still waiting for a majority of the jobs to be staffed thru a local temp agency and probably only a hand full that will be for permeant full time with benefits positions... Alot of big companies around here have an onsite temp office . where the temp worker can go talk to a temp agency rep onsite for issues such as their time and pay and any other issues.

Obviously, the megasite and Toyota are great for NC and the Triad. And obviously we have underemployed people and people not in the labor force who will work for Toyota, etc. Just as obvious is the fact that there is no way Toyota can find 100% of their new employees locally. They will recruit lots of people from out of state and from other Toyota facilities. Thats a fact.
According to a recent Winston Salem Journal article:
"Toyota’s Norm Bafunno said some Liberty plant workers could come from as far as 70 miles away, but the bulk of hires will come from within 30 to 40 miles. “It’s a personal decision of what potential employees determine is right for them in terms of driving to the plant, Bafunno said."
Jim Melvin and Roy Cooper are beaming with pride over the local jobs. Both men expressed pride that all of the jobs would be taken by locals.
Other EV charging manufacturing companies are also opening facilities in Charlotte and Durham. I think that the center part of the state is doing very well in EV based manufacturing. Not so sure about VinFast however. Still a question mark IMO.
Toyota has joined the growing list of automakers that have decided to switch to using Tesla’s charging standard. Beginning in 2025 all Toyota electric vehicles sold in the US will have charging ports designed to work with Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS), rather than the Combined Charging System plugs automakers in the US now use.
Toyota’s announcement means that all of America’s best-selling automakers — Toyota ranks second only to General Motors in US sales — have agreed to switch to Tesla’s standard in the next few years.
Toyota Battery Manufacturing of NC is planning to provide another economic treat — this time on Halloween — at its production campus in Liberty.
The manufacturer said Tuesday it will make an "announcement about the future of battery manufacturing" at 9 a.m. Oct. 31 at the site at 5938 Julian Airport Road.
Toyota only disclosed that Sean Suggs, president of the Toyota business unit, will conduct a press conference during the event.
Most likely an automobile assembly plant which is something the Triad has sought for at least 3 decades. But this one would be for electric vehicles.
For some reason I thought that was already announced.... I guess this would be the official announcement to confirm what has been floated for a while?
Guess we'll find out.
