The Sears at Friendly Center will be closing this summer. It is the last Sears in North Carolina and one of only 18 Sears stores still open in the country. This is a prime opportunity for CBL properties to do something really special especially with Whole Foods already as an anchor tenant for this parcel. The Sears store and the Sears auto center building give CBL alot of space to work with. Hopefully they can get some more stores not in the triad and or some unique entertainment options. I would also really like to see the older part of Friendly connected better with the newer part.

Per CBL Properties (Owners of Friendly Center): The Sears closure is the first step of an active redevelopment plan, which provides CBL the opportunity to redevelop prime real estate at one of our top-performing properties. Once plans are finalized, we'll be excited to share more specific details.

As a side note two new chain stores are under construction at Friendly Center. American Eagle will open next to the new OFFLINE by Aerie store in the older section. Warby Parker will open its first Triad location next to J.Jill in the Shops at Friendly.

Finally, across Friendly Avenue from Whole Foods Hayden Park luxury townhomes are currently under construction as well. These townhomes will have a starting price point from the 600's.

Yes!! Glad to hear that CBL has an active plan to make good use of the Sears space.. I was afraid , it would turn into a urgent care or something crappy like that.... Hope those never pop up there! Looking forward to more places to shop in.. a new restaurant would be nice too
