Looking for house rental.. btwn WS and GSO (Winston-Salem, Statesville: rentals, property management)

I am stressing out about trying to find a rental between GSO and WS. I have checked craigslist.com but nothing has come of it.. usually good rentals are snatched up before I can get out to look at them. I am looking for something *safe* - no kids, 2 dogs ( one service dog and one lap dog) I definitely need to find something soon - the drive from Statesville is killin' me!!!
any ideas where to look? realtors? HELP!!!!

craigslist mainly will have rentals by the owner however many are ran through property management companies so google "property managment, XXdesired city"

I just check on a few in Winston area and they have web base detail on various home rentals available.

Rental companies is a good thing to go through they manage the property and are the ones who come out if something needs a fixing.
