It is what it is; good basic PR at least. I remember a similar "ranking" from other sources in the recent past.

Hmm, don't get me wrong. Love living in Greenville, but unless you showed up on a weekend when there was a big event, it'd be a lame-A#$ vacation IMHO.

Minor league baseball... a dime a dozen. Hiking...an hour a way one could hike in real mountains. The zoo....okay, there's a way to kill a couple of hours. Unless you are coming to visit family and a have a free place to stay, I could think of a million other places to go on vacation!

It's a nice city. You never know where these vacationers are coming from. You'd be surprised. Not everyone is a beach.goer or mountain lover. Different scenery always makes for a good vacation, for me.

I think it was chosen because there are usually things going on at the Bi Lo Center or Peace center, there are enough restaurants to try a new one each night of one's stay, and we are close enough to the mountains to be a great base of operations for exploring them. Not to mention a plethora of historic sites & museums in the entire region.

As a realist, these suspect polls/census that come from different websites can be very misleading at best. Have viewed many towns and cities here on CD and have yet to come across one that hasn't been mentioned in some kinda top 5/10 something. It's unfortunate for average Joe citizen, as many of these different census you read on the INTERnet contradict one another. There's no industry standard for a set criteria, and many things can and do sway the individual sitting in his/her cube wanting to try and make news to a particular area.

Just my thought...

Still, a weekend (or perhaps longer) spent as a tourist in Greenville, SC is a MUCH different and better experience than doing the same in most other cities its size.

Greenville is a great weekend trip. I agree that it's not somewhere you'd like to go for a week, but then again that's not what the metro was built for.
