I was in another part of the state and someone asked me where I was from. I told them Greenville.

They raved about how pretty the area is and said this part of the state is God's country.

Yep, I'd have to agree.

What exactly about us is 'God's Country'?

lol. Why do people have to pick apart stuff?

To me they were saying this part of the state is gorgeous and has such natural beauty all around the area. That's how I took it but then I didn't take it apart and try to read more or less into it.

That is what it means verbatim. Natural rural beauty. I'm not a god fearing man but I took that out of it without looking up the "dictionary definition"

Years ago we lived in Charlotte, N. C. and had visited our parents in Northwestern North Carolina. We stopped for gas and the man who then filled our tank asked, "You going back to God's country?" Our answer to that was, "No, we are going to Sin City. This is God's country."

I saw that definition, but it is not the definition I would have thought belonged to the phrase of God's country. I would think that God's country would be a place where people do not steal, kill, drink or otherwise engage in sinful activities. Greenville is a pretty enough place, but I would never describe it as God's country.

but that is your own personal definition. there is nowhere where people do not steal kill or engage in sinful activities, other than christian heaven.

One would think that the crime rate in a place called God's country would be at least below the national average for crime. Not one year listed here is Greenville below the national average.

City-data.com crime index (higher means more crime, U.S. average = 319.1) 595.2 652.6 558.3 519.9 550.8 530.1 497.4 528.5 470.0 467.2 373.5

I don't really see the relevance in your argument. I'm telling you that your personal definition has nothing to do with what the phrase means, and you give me statistics.
Great, but someones personal feelings about what this area is to them has nothing to do with that. I'm happy that someone sees this as a beautiful rural area, I do as well, that is why I choose to live here.
And its not "called" gods country. one person somewhere described it that way, and it sounded kinda nice, so someone posted about it.
