They have chicken and waffles on the menu at IHOP. :-) I thought of jazzyk's post on Mother's Day, actually, when we had brunch there and I saw it on the menu...We are planning on moving to the Greenville area this summer and I just love hearing all of you foodies out there post the local yummy places to eat! Keep those good ideas coming!
The only place I ever heard of Chicken & Waffles was in a book I read "Mildred Pierce" which was written a long time ago but became popular again when I think it was HBO did a mini-series remake of the old movie.
I remember reading about it when I was in college (late 80s). I believe the dish originated in California at a place called Roscoe's. Anyway, I didn't have it until a few years ago when we lived in another state. I always thought of it as a Southern cuisine type thing (even though Cali doesn't qualify as such).
I went to Cheddar's Tuesday with the intent of ordering it...then decided I wanted grilled cheese instead. lol. It comes with chicken fingers and I'd prefer a real (bone-in) piece of chicken. Picky picky.
Syrup is a must! It's all about the salty/sweet. Although, I eat it separately -- as one would eat pancakes and sausage. I put syrup in the waffle and eat it in between bites of syrup-less chicken.
