OK Lunarstorm777. I nominate you as the person to get this done. You certainly have the passion and desire to do so.

Who is going to pay for security that will be needed to keep the drunks and drug users out? Can you imagine all the drunk drivers traveling down the mountain? The mountain community will not allow a nice new development. They certainly are not going to allow an overlook, even if someone came forward with cash to pay for it. Doing that is asking for trouble on the mountain. Not going to happen.

How do other cities with mountains manage to do it but Greenville can't?

We can do anything if we set our minds to it. Up, up, up, and away.

Imagine being able to add to the I Was Blown Away website: We have an awesome overlook of the city on a mountain in town.

Yanno, you make a good point Mr. Harrison. Why can't we do it if others can?

Why exactly is there so much hatred from two of you over this idea? Its one thing to think its not going to work, but this almost seems like active denial of what a lot of people think is a good idea and have wanted for years.... Perhaps some ulterior motive(s) were missing? You guys buy some of those Mcmansions up there a while back and want to keep everyone else out since "you already have yours" as they say?

Sides, a development and an overlook are in completely different realms. The environmental impact of the Cesar's head overlook is miniscule compared to the impact of the communities surrounding the overlook. Anyone remember the ground water contamination from a house's leaking septic tank up there a while back?

And furthermore if there aren't bodies laying all over altamonte road from the drunks going to hang out at the radio towers already, then there won't be when they go to hang out at an overlook in the same place. As for the security force, why not use the same one we use now? I mean the Greenville county police already run everyone off for being up there on the quasi public road at the towers. We give the land to Paris mountain state park to manage long term, a ranger takes a little drive up to the top every night to shut and lock the gate, the police go on doing what they do now. Kinda seems like you guys are grasping at straws on this one.

If you want to see land ownership along Tower Rd., or anywhere else in Greenville County, go to http://www.gcgis.org/webmappub/.

Holy slow website batman! Not your fault though, thanks for sharing the link.

Took a look atop the mountain and it seems the main parcel needed is owned by the DOT, which would make sense considering I think the FAA (part of the DOT) has some sort of aircraft nav aid up there. Will hafta take a look on a sectional and see whats listed soon. Maybe its just a Vortac? Either way, could easily be moved or incorporated into an overlook. The other 2 - 3 parcels needed have some interesting history according to the website. Apparently 2 of them were owned by Western Union before being purchased by private people. I'd guess they figured they would sit on the parcels and hope to make a killing when the developers showed up. Might work out, might not. Either way, time to do some homework.

Who are "they" and do they actually "need" another overlook in Greenville County?

The real question is why you are so opposed to it. I don't see how it affects you either way. I guess somebody could have said they didn't need Falls Park.
They didn't need that expensive pediastrian suspension bridge over the falls. So on and so forth.

They know who they are.
