Saw a news story today that Sears Portrait Studios were closing. Did the one at Haywood Mall get closed? I just had my daughters picture taken there last Saturday and have not received the portraits yet.
After many years of providing family portrait photography, we are sad to announce our Sears Portrait Studios are now closed. We appreciate your patronage and allowing us to capture your precious memories. If you currently have an album or have had a recent portrait session, you can order products at searsphotos.com thru April 18, 2013.
If you have had a recent session, your portraits may be available at your local studio.
I advise contacting Sears store management directly in person. They should be aware of the situation and likely have a process what to do with the closings.
More than 2000 studios abrubtly closed. Mostly all Sears and Walmart studios.
Digital photography killed the studios.
JCP is still operating it's studios.
I would say that digital sharing, in addition to digital photography is what is killing studios. Most people want to get out of the confines of the studio. Once people started sharing pictures of their outdoor/location shoots, more people wanted to do it too. Also, studios cost a lot of money to maintain, while people are less likely to want to have their portraits done in them. This is all in addition to the affordability of digital. I guess you could say it's a multi-faceted issue, or several causes for the effect.
One thing about these studios, they did not innovate. Portrait Innovations on Woodruff Road is a great example of meeting customers needs and expectations. They develop your potraits on the spot. Instant gratification...
I expect their business to skyrocket because there will always be a need for portait studios, just less in number like we have just witnessed.
