Has this been mentioned before? I had someone tell me that they heard it was going around where Shogun is on Augusta Road?

Shogun of Kyoto is located at Lewis Plaza, 1726 Augusta Street, Greenville, South Carolina 29605-2926.

I do not know what Kroger's plans are for entering Greenville and the upstate South Carolina market. It can enter organically through Kroger and Harris Teeter banners, or it can acquire an existing chain that has great market share and many locations.

Publix has been rumored to open a store at Lewis Plaza for nearly three years. Antiques on Augusta, previously located in the former Earth Fare, has relocated to 10 West Lewis Plaza, Greenville, South Carolina 29605-2940. The rear block of Lewis Plaza, if razed, is big enough to accommodate a Publix. Parking would have to be added above the store.

good grief, I've heard about the Publix rumor for Lewis Plaza for years - wasn't there even a published article re this development? the Augusta Road area really needs a new, major grocer - Harris Teeter would do phenomenal in that location

I regularly use Harris Teeter when I visit the in-laws in Greensboro, NC - several locations are fantastic and rival any Publix

Either Harris Teeter or Publix would be successful at Lewis Plaza or elsewhere on Augusta Street. Both chains and Kroger are actively opening new stores.

It would make sense for Kroger to infill across upstate South Carolina as it has presences in surrounding markets/regions through its banner or Harris Teeter, or through another chain.

Rumors have surfaced earlier this year regarding Harris Teeter possibly returning to the Upstate. And since they are nearby in Hendersonville and Asheville, and up the road in Charlotte, it makes since that Kroger would seek to fill in the gap in the Upstate. Since they also have a strong Kroger presence in Atlanta. But hopefully the HT brand would return here, as a better competitor to Publix and to stand out above Ingle's and Bi-Lo. I hope to see HT return as they have very nice stores.

Funny, the rumors about HT directly on Augusta have been around all the way back to the 80's. I believe they looked up and down Augusta for a site for years and even contemplated the Bowling Center/Old Theater area of Greenville Tech before settling on the store they built on S. Pleasantburg where GB Shoes is now. Augusta Road residents loved that store and were quite loyal to it before HT pulled out of Atlanta and the upstate over 10 years ago. Now that they are under Kroger's leadership I would not be surprised if they did backfill into this market and they picked Augusta Rd for their first store again.

Harris Teeter did well in Greenville and Spartanburg counties. Its leadership at the time made decisions that resulted in its stores being sold to Bi-Lo and departing the market. Under Kroger's ownership and ability to back fill previous markets through other banners, Harris Teeter should give the upstate South Carolina market another try.

I wonder if McDaniel Village and Potomac Square Shopping Center (formerly Terrace Shopping Center) can be redeveloped for a supermarket tenant.
