I know The Village at Townes as I used to live on Townes. They are older, well maintained, less expensive. They are walking distance to DT. Very rentable. You will not have a nice view, but you will have a nice little fenced in back patio. I loved living on Townes. There's a grocery right across the street and Main Street is just right up with hill.

there aren't any "bad areas" in Downtown Greenville...by comparison to other cities. Downtown Greenville is one of the safest most desirable areas to live and if you decide to rent in the future, you'll have no problem. I know from my own experience...wait to find a deal, there are are lots to be found! Don't worry about good vs bad areas...it's all good...

I live in The Village at Townes, the corner of Park and Townes Streets. I purchased a condo here 6 years ago and love the location. One-quarter mile from Main Library and one mile to Falls Park; there are grocery stores, pharmacy, restaurants a very short walk away. My neighbors (owners and renters) are wonderful. There is a waiting list for people wanting to rent here - good news for a owners. Two new houses were built across the street (on Townes) and another completely renovated within the past six months. Come on down!
ps - I am a California transplant.

Default condos

You may get lucky and find a foreclosure near downtown. I found one for some of my clients and they got a really good deal. They have the same plan, live in it for a few years and rent it out. Maybe you will have the same luck. You have to have to be looking everyday because the good deals get gone pretty quick sometmes.
