So we are moving to Greenville in 3-4 weeks. We have decided to rent due to low inventory, a short term lease apartment to keep us safe and dry until we make our final decision of where to live. We are leaning strongly towards building with Ryan Homes in River Shoals, in 29680.
We want great schools, a family friendly community, and safe, clean, affordable living for our family of 5 with little kids. We both work from home, so commute is not a concern. For our budget of 250-350K and our desire to NOT fix anything up, I feel this is our best option, to go new.
Does anyone here have anything to share about this builder or this community? I would love feedback as this is all new to us. Open to suggestions or even stories of experience for those that have gone this route. TIA
Ryan Homes has a good reputation. I worked with them in Irmo wherre my son built his home, and he has been pleased with it. Like any bulder, you have to keep on top of them and make sure you make regular visits to check on the progress od your home. lso do a pre-drywall and post drywall inspection. River Shoals is a great community- welcome to the Upstate!
As the mother of three children who attended several different schools (not in this area) I can tell you that scores do not tell the whole story. I always advise families relocating to the area to visit the schools and do their own research.
I will agree that there are better schools in the Greenville area. I have found this area to be more of average, then abover average or excellent. Weigh in neighborhoods, price points and a family that wants to enjoy life more than fix up an older home, then this area has become more appealing to me. My oldest will most likely be applying to the gifted school in Greenville (if our local elementary does not cater to her needs). Also, I am told charters (via lottery) are a great option should the assigned schools not meet our needs for the younger kids.
I appreciate your feedback though. I would prefer Riverside High. But then again, that is 8 years away for us, so who knows where we will be by then.

Yes- this area does have many choices (they actually make my dizzy- glad I don't still have kids in school!) so you don't have to stick to the assigned schools.
