Please keep in mind that the number one thing that effects your child's education in you. If you value education then your child will also value education.
Please notice that I didn't say that your level of education is the key. Even parents who are single parents, or those who haven't finished high school themselves if you value education your child will do well. If you attend conferences, ask your child what they did in school, ask them if they have homework these are the clues to helping your child do well. If you don't know how to do what your child is doing it is ok. There are tutoring programs through most schools. I have personally seen students attend what have been labeled "poor performing" schools, schools that don't make AYP year after year, do well because their parents are involved. These parents couldn't move out of town to a "better" school district and they didn't have the ability to put their child in a charter school or private school due to transportation issues so they made the best of the education available to them. Please keep this in mind when you are "ranking" schools.
