I used to like Gus's Streetside because it is near work. Went there last week and it has really changed. Don't expect to be returning.

I thought I'd bring this thread back because hubby and I were talking about this very subject last night. We went to Stax Omega on Orchard Park Dr. last night and they have a good selection of "Meat and Three's" on their menu for a reasonable price. You can also do "Meat and Two" or "Meat and One." Hubby liked the meatloaf a lot. I had liver and onions. The liver was a little over-cooked, but I loved the fried okra.

The Wingate restaurant is no more - it has been replaced by "Thai Cuisine".

Henry's Smokehouse is still going strong, though!

I would like to suggest that all of you try MoJo's Burgers in Simpsonville. It is located where Fairview comes into Main near The Coach House. Custom burgers made from fresh ground beef, hand cut fries and real ice cream shakes. A local couple doing well. They have a sign out saying they will be soon opening a second place at Cherrydale.

I am not a fan of Tommy's unless it's the biscuits. I have to admit I don't plan to go back to Tommy's Ham House again! Gene's has always been a great meat and 3 and has been around Greenville for along time!! Gene the owner recently past away and will be greatly missed at his restaurant. I understand his children have taken over the running of the restaurant and look forward to trying Gene's again. I loved the meat and 2 restaurant called Fried Green Tomatoes near Heywood Mall but they enlarged the place and the service and food has really gone down hill!! I won't be going there again! My favorite restaurant is a little place that's opened for lunch (I don't know the exact hours) is Malvina's on Augusta Road!! Food was wonderful, service friendly and fast! I always enjoy going there when I'm off work!

You must be picky. Fried Green Tomatoes is wonderful. We visit there almost every Saturday. They have great sweet tea, and I am picky on my sweet tea. Tommy's is great too. Those are the best meat and vegetable places worth going to in Greenville.

I haven't eaten at Fried Green Tomatoes since last year, but it was still good then. The Dixie Restaurant on Poinsett Hwy between Downtown and Cherrydale is a bit of a local institution in the "meat & 3" vein as well. I ate there once a couple years ago, and it was great! Cateran Lodge on Wade Hampton Blvd near Bob Jones Univ is good also.

The owner said they had a much larger selection at that location. Much more upscale as well.
FYI - MoJos has recently started selling beer as well. They are not putting any tacky neon signs out but are displaying the types they sell along a shelf on the right side of the room.

Are their beers the standards (Mich Ultra, Bud, etc) or more high end beers?
