I think there are some strange state laws about annexation.... I've been told Greenville would be MUCH larger (land and population-wise) if not for said laws.

One thing for sure is, its larger than most think and give it credit for. Would companies like Apple, Mimi's Cafe, etc locate in something they consider a small town?

Just naming a few, but yea. I think this is its only SC location. You can add Quaker Steak and Lube, also only SC location. There are more. What is their criteria? I'm sure they wouldn't locate in something considered small town would they?

I've often wondered about these things, too... Which also leads one to wonder: if all these retailers/restaurants (and hotels - Greenville has much better hotels than most cities its size and some much larger, like Birmingham) see something in this metro area that they like, why don't the airlines, esp low-fare carriers? I've always thought that Greenville's level of business activity, retail, restaurant & arts scenes, etc belie our mediocre (at best) air service.
