I found a house I like in Holly Tree but all the other houses look so old and outdated. It also seems sorely underpriced considering the schools. Is this because there are no families or kids in the neighborhood? We are considerining River Walk, Holly Tree and Stonehaven. Stonehaven appears to have the most kids but there is no neighborhood newsletter or network. As newcomers we also would like a more organized neighborhood like River Walk, but there aren't any nice houses for sale in there right now. Comments on any of these? Especially Holly Tree?

Thanks!

I'm not up on all the names; where is Holly Tree? I know I've seen it but not sure where in my travels?

Sorry should have been more specific. It's in Simpsonville. It's on the Holly Tree Golf course.

I have several friends with young kids who live in Holly Tree. In addition to a popular swim team, there is an active homeowners association and organized events. Holly Trace is similar neighborhood (although much smaller) across the street. The dynamic of that neighborhood is actually changing to younger families. The age of these neighborhoods is such that many of the original families have become empty nesters and are downsizing, selling the houses to families with kids. Your realtor should be able to pull the dynamics of the neighborhood, giving you an average age, etc. School will be out soon and the pool will be open. I'd ride through in the early evening or on the weekend and see what you think. One thing my husband and I did to really get a sense of prospective neighborhoods was to park and either walk or ride bikes around. That gives you a very good feeling for traffic, neighborhood friendliness, etc., as well as a chance to take a good look at the homes, see how well they are maintained, etc. Some of the houses in Holly Tree are a bit dated looking in their exterior design, but many people have renovated the interior. While the houses are older, you do get a lot for the money, particularly if you are looking for a place with non-cookie cutter houses, mature trees and big lots. It just depends on what you want.

Thanks Gaelcat. That's good advice and helpful information. We are looking for exactly as you mentioned, non cookie cutter, mature trees and big lots, so maybe this is the place for us. It's so hard to search for houses so far away! Thanks again.

Holly Tree is a great suburban golf course community, but old enough to have huge trees and mature lawns. Looks really nice to my eye!

Snowball Jack- just curious now 6 years later where you ended up? I am relocating to Greenville with my husband and 4 year old son and found a house I love in Holly Tree....but like you want a community brimming with kids. Thanks for your insight!
