FWIW, Catholicism frowns on keeping an urn in the home like that. It's considered disrespectful to the remains. Scattering of the ashes is also not allowed.
I Am catholic but do not go by what the church says in regards to certain things. My husband passed away back in July and I keep his ashes in an urn in the living room. Will God punish me for this...I do not think so.
I am Catholic and my 68 year old wife passed away Thanksgiving morning after a 2 year 9 month battle with ALS. ( I was her caregiver )
We had a funeral mass last Saturday at 11:00 and her urn was buried in the Catholic cemetery immediately following mass.
Besides it being in step with Catholic regulations, it was the way I and my children would have done it regardless ....
Interesting. The family of a friend of mine had him cremated before they arranged for the funeral with their parish priest. He refused to perform a funeral mass or have any ceremony in the church because the body had been cremated before the mass, claiming that it was against church rules to be cremated before the funeral mass.

Everyone has different feelings on the matter.

My deepest condolences, Teddy.
kev, maybe some priests are more "with it" than others or maybe that's a difference between Roman Catholic and just Catholic? IDK. I was brought up Roman Catholic and didn't realize that I guess there are some parishes that aren't. At least I think that's what I learned.
What type of house guest stays 3 weeks? Someone who is a 100% telecommuter and lives in another country. But wants to visit friends in the US.
And chooses to be out of the country at the exact time her father is dying?
That is the puzzle piece that just doesn't fit.
