I have several European friends visiting, ad they have eagerly asked me about unloading some rounds at a shooting range. They have zero knowledge about guns, so I wonder is there's any problem with it (maybe the range owners won't let them shoot or whatever)
Nonsense, but you won't be doing them any favors. You'll only introduce them to a hobby they'll really enjoy but not be able to partake in when they return to prison err, home.

Ehm - tons of Europeans have shooting as a hobby and/or sport.
Here's something strange about UK gun laws. It's illegal to own a handgun without Home Office permission. They give that permission to celebrity bodyguards and few others. There is one exception, however. The local police may licence a smooth bore pistol chambered for either .410 or 9mm rimfire. It's not hard to obtain if a person says he wants it for vermin control. Without a federal tax stamp and special permission in this country, the jack-booted thugs would be at your door to kill your pets and very possibly to kill you.
No, I wouldn't trade; but it shows the idiocy and immorality of gun laws, any and all gun laws.

Does the OP belong to a club? Do you have a range? I would go for a .22 rifle and work with one person at a time, preferably an outdoor range -- after giving directions to all on safety. [If they really want to handle pistols, you might have some issues, depending on where you live. In NY, w/out a permit, you would not be allowed to give a pistol to a non permit holder ( no matter where they are from)-- even classes are done with airguns (idiotic)] Stick with .22 rifle and safety "class" first. Please make sure they know that all guns must be down and empty and open before anyone goes downrange to retrieve targets.... honestly, I have seen so many fools not pay attention to that it is unreal

Good advice.
The pistol shooting clubs I belonged to back in Denmark (excusme me - "prison") had .22 rifles around solely for the (mandatory) range safety orientation. Pistols are just too fast and too easy to turn in a wrong direction - particularly if people get excited. (Of course, my own introduction to range safety was given by big scary men with loud voices and green outfits with stripes on the sleeves. Some imprints stay with you forever.)
Was he able to take it home to the UK without getting arrested?
I finally heard back from my friend, he was able to keep the spent 50 cal casing. He said he through it in his personal bag and it wasn't an issue.
