Once again the point of the thread wasn't to compare the virtues of Glocks vs. 1911 Colt ACP, in fact the thread had nothing to do with the 1911 but rather the Colt Peacemaker. Well then, the GLOCK wins hands down. Not VERY many people owned or carried a Colt Army .45 LC. Back then, it was shotguns and rifles for most. Crime was low and the need to carry was exagerated in movies. You'll find 10 to 1 Glocks in service NOW. Maybe even more.
