Guns! Need help with a Shotgun (sale, best, shells, handgun)

Hello there! Does anybody here know which gun is a better quality and better for the price? Looking for a security home defense shotgun. Looking at 2 guns, cant decide, need help!! Remington 870, 20 inch barell 12 gauge 8 shot for 319.00 or a Mossberg 500 I believe 6 shot 20 inch barell 12 gauge for 249.00.

Bewteen those two which would you choose and why? which kick is worse?

I would chose the Remington, primarily because I believe it would be much easier to resell if I ever decided to (or it least it used to be, I don't fool around with guns as much as I once did). You're not talking about a whole lot of difference in price anyway.

From what I've heard and read, Remington generally has a better reputation for producing a quality product. Take that for what it's worth. I know a few people with Remington shotguns that are satisfied with them. I also know several people that have Mossberg shotguns that are very satisfied with them, so I think overall, it just comes down to your personal preference. I have not really heard anything bad about either of them from anyone I know that has either one of them.

I have a Remington model 870 12 gauge, and I love it.

I've never owned a Mossberg before, but they're good guns too. Like Alleycat and Jdavid mentioned, you can definitely feel the quality in the Remington.

Another question while on the gun subject. I'm new to guns, so would you say a Shotgun is the best gun for home defense? I did shoot some hand guns & shotguns weeks ago, my aim with the hand guns were horrible, but destroyed the targets with the shotgun with ease.

Both are fine weapons and will serve your purpose equally well. The 870 is a little more name brand and has an excelent reputaion for reliability. You will see them in most police cruisers.

You just answered your own question on which would be the best tool for you.

Take some saftey, or hunter saftey courses too. Understand the laws in your state also.

Good Question, A 12 gauge with 00 shells is Great for shooting THROUGH walls, doors, etc. But a handgun has different tactical advantages...And yes, get the Remington. As far as the handgun: go with Sig or H&K--They are some of the most reliable.

I own both. Good guns. I hunt with each one. Only difference I see is the 870 has easier access to add ons and parts. Seems more of it at gunshows and on sales in hunting stores.

For home drfense they are equal, I would buy the least expensive, I have a Mossberg 500 just for that purpose but I also have a barrel for hunting.
