some one was saying they couldn't find hand gun ammo, if you have a Cabele's around you try there, they always have it or will get it for you within a week
I prefer my .40 cal. S&W with a 180 gr. hollow tip, and my 12 ga. side by side with 3" Flechette rounds ( left over from better times ), nothing walks away from those.
Aren't flechette rounds illegal? Only time I've heard of them being used was in testing for the military back in the 60s and 70s.
You can still buy flechette rounds so they must not be illegal or a factory wouldn't be producing them. They aren't common in stores, more of a mail order thing.
I visited our local Wal Mart today, probably the first time in over 6 months. I was surprised to find that 9MM ammo was $25 dollars a box, and $45 ACP was $20 a box for the same sized box. Most people say 9MM is cheap to shoot, if that is the case, 45 ACP is cheaper. I was also surprised to see that Wal Mart had a pretty good variety of ammo, usual for a company that hates firearms.
One point I think should be mentioned, when 'personal defense' is discussed, is, what type of firearm is selected, and subsequent choice of fodder, is secondary to whether the operator is comfortable and proficient with the combo. If one has the most powerful magnum cartrige chambered tool, but cannot control the piece, well, you may as well just get a ball bat. The purpose of shooting IS to HIT the target, and if you can do that best with a quality lil' .22, seems logical to keep that handy as opposed to a .500 SW. Whatever is chosen for a 'personal defense' gun, one should practice with it, but, alas, that ain't always the case. So, depending on where you fall on the chart here, think about it. If all you're going to do is buy the weapon, put a few rounds down the day you buy it, and stick it in a drawer, I would suggest something that don't buck to much. The best quality ammo on the market is worthless if it flys everywhere but where you need it to go.
What do you guys use? I have a Sig P239 .40 and a Bersa Thunder .380 and have both loaded with Federal Hydra Shok, 180g for the Sig and I think 90g in the Bersa, but can't find anyone with any in stock.
I haven't owned that many guns, but at one point or another I have owned the same Bersa and the same Sig, same caliber and all. Weird.
I forget what I kept in the .380. That was my first pistol and I wasn't big into ammo and I hadn't gotten my carry permit yet. I used the same ammo in the Sig when I had that - the Federal Hydra Shok.
I carry a compact 1911 now. Historically, there have been issues with feeding them hollow points, so I use Speer Gold Dot ammo that's specifically for short barrels.
Federal Tactical 00 Buck 12 Gauge... Can't buy a handgun yet (a few months away).
